GENERAL LABORER: HARD & SOFT SURFACE RESTORATION
EMPLOYMENT TYPE : Full-Time (50+ hours weekly)
JOB SUMMARY:
The General Laborer – Hard & Soft Surface Restoration – is responsible for assisting in the repair and restoration of disturbed surfaces following utility, construction, or excavation work. This includes restoring hard surfaces such as asphalt and concrete, as well as soft surfaces including soil, lawns, landscaping, and other disturbed ground areas. The position requires physical labor, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in outdoor environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with restoration of asphalt and concrete surfaces, including preparation, forming, pouring, finishing, patching, and sealing.
- Perform soft surface restoration, including grading soil, spreading topsoil, seeding, installing sod, and applying straw or mulch.
- Operate hand tools and small equipment such as shovels, rakes, tampers, plate compactors, and cut-off saws.
- Assist with removing damaged pavement, concrete, or soil and preparing surfaces for restoration.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and ensure debris is properly removed.
- Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment at job sites.
- Follow traffic control plans and assist with placing cones, barricades, and warning signs as needed.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA safety regulations.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors, equipment operators, and other crew members.
- Must be able to pass background check and drug screening.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Frequently lift and carry 50–75 pounds.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to safely operate tools and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in construction, paving, landscaping, or restoration work preferred.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain).
- Basic knowledge of construction tools and materials is helpful.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Outdoor construction sites including roadways, residential areas, and commercial properties.
- Exposure to dust, noise, moving equipment, and changing weather conditions.
- Overtime, weekends, and on-call work may be required depending on project schedules.
